Book of the Month: The Runner

I can imagine your face while reading this post. Why the hell do you post the book of the month on the 22nd of October? Well, no specific reason… I’ve just fallen in love with this book and I simply thought you might like it as well.

“The Runner” written by Lizzy Hawker has been my must have wherever I go since I bought it, on October 12th. It’s her story, the story of her breathtaking experience as a trail runner. She did her first UTMB (Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, around 100 miles and 8600m of positive altitude change) in 2005 and she won it. It was her first trail ever. She said she didn’t even have proper shoes!

It crazy. Her words make you fall in love with running, no matter if you have been running for one day or a lifetime. At the beginning, as she is waiting for this mad 27 hours of running, you can feel the excitment, the pressure. And step by step, km after km, you feel the power, the effort, the pain and you’ll soon start dreaming about running an ultratrail.

Runner tells Lizzy’s story and in so doing, uncovers the journey of the physical, mental and emotional challenges that runners go through at the edge of human endurance. From the school girl running the streets of London to breaking records on the world’s mountains and toughest races, Lizzy Hawker is an inspiration to anyone who would like to see how far they can go, running or not. Her whole carreer is gripping, but this, her first trail, her thoughts about it, her emotions will make you read from the first to the last word of the book non-stop, you 27 hours of ultra-reading. Are you ready for it?
